Competitions Held to Determine Best Technician
Columbus, OH - September 15, 2008 -Safelite AutoGlass® technicians will compete for the title of "Best Technician" at their divisional Best of Belron competitions taking place throughout the fall. The competitions, held at the Safelite AutoGlass® facilities across the country, determine the best vehicle glass technician from 11 regions. Employees will be tested on all facets of their job - quality, safety and efficiency - while demonstrating windshield replacement, body glass replacement, windshield repair and customer service.
Every two years Belron®, the parent company Safelite AutoGlass® hosts an international installation and repair competition to demonstrate their commitment to developing the best vehicle glass technicians in the world.
Two technicians have already competed and earned their spots in the U.S. national finals. John Rhine competed on Aug. 29 in Pico Rivera, Calif. and John Nordstrom earned a spot to move on in a competition that took place on Saturday in Arvada, Colo.
Additional competitions will be held:
- Orlando, Fla., Sept. 19
- Milwaukee, Wis., Oct. 3
- Phoenix, Ariz., Oct. 17
- Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 24
- Pittston, Pa., Oct. 31
- San Antonio, Texas, Nov. 7
- Sacramento, Calif., Nov. 14
- Norcross, Ga., Nov. 21
- Henderson, Nev., Dec. 5
The winners from each regional competition advance to a national competition in January in Orlando, Fla., where the top vehicle glass installer from the national event will represent the United States in the Best of Belron international competition in France in June of 2010. The U.S. winner will receive $10,000 prize. The international competition holds a purse of a year's salary and the title of best technician in the world.
"These competitions are exciting events within our company because they showcase our technicians who are the heart and soul of our operation," said Tom Feeney, president and CEO of Belron® US. "The contest is intense for the competitors because they are under the spotlight -something that doesn't happen in their day-to-day responsibilities in serving our customers. Watching their professionalism and expertise in action is amazing."
Each regional competition includes a knowledge and customer service component that takes place the night before, with the Saturday event beginning at 10 a.m. with the vehicle glass repair and replacement portions.
