Safelite AutoGlass proud to celebrate Earth Day with continued commitment to sustainability

04-17-2018

COLUMBUS, OH – In celebration of Earth Day, Safelite AutoGlass® is proud to continue its responsibility to care for and protect the environment by thinking green wherever possible.

As the leader in the auto glass repair and replacement industry, Safelite is committed to protecting the environment for future generations, and leading by example. The company’s windshield glass recycling program is important not only to the planet, but to loyal customers.

Since 2012, Safelite has recycled more than eight million windshields. That equates to more than 139,000 tons of glass staying out of landfills, or a reduction of more than 23,000 tons of carbon dioxide. And placing those recycled windshields side by side would stretch from the company’s corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ohio all the way to Shanghai. In 2017 alone, Safelite recycled more than 1.8 million windshields or 32,000 tons, and each year has increased their recycling efforts by more than 20 percent.

During the recycling process, the windshield glass is separated and processed by Shark Glass Recycling North America. It is then recycled into raw materials used to create new fiberglass insulation and carpet backing. Associates across the country enjoy walking on the very carpets their recycling efforts have provided—efforts that continue to improve climate problems, save energy, and help the economy.
